One day plaster masterclass workshop in Helen’s Studio W8, Cockpit Bloomsbury, WC1 London - this intensive day will develop your skills in a small, intimate group environment - meaning tailored learning opportunities. Whether you are starting out or building on previous knowledge, Helen is passionate about the material and its’ qualities, she will walk you through the stages of understanding its’ properties and applications.

From being shown how to mix, a step by step explanation will broaden what is possible, how to use efficiently and safely, pitfalls and how to correct without panicking - build confidence and your world of making will expand.

Whether you are a beginner with an interest in casting, a budding potter or ceramic maker, an artist or designer, the techniques are brilliant fun and adaptable to so many sculptural project stages. Helen is happy to receive information prior to the session. It will be recommended to bring a number of ideas to choose from, size restriction applies.

About: I am a professional model and mould maker with over 25 years experience with 200+ clients in my model and mould making portfolio. I have taught for 20 years in further and higher education.

date: Saturday 27th July 2024

time: 10.00-4.00pm (with a break for lunch)

cost: £175 per person, all materials included

location: Holborn - easily accessible by bus or tube

What you will learn:-

  1. Possibilities in plaster - you will be shown uses and the potential

  2. Making impressions and casting

  3. Mixing plaster

  4. How to make a one piece/drop out mould

What you will do:-

  1. Learn to mix and blend plaster properly and safely (a step by step worksheet will provided by email after the course)

  2. Capture textures in plaster - carving and casting - for stamping or decorative use

  3. Make a one piece drop out mould - releasing models from plaster

Suitable for beginners and refreshing knowledge in plaster and casting

Please bring a notebook, apron and lunch - there are many local eateries and shops close by.
